Training Tips/Blogs
Well the opener wasn't all that I had hoped it would be. In fact I shot only half my limit in the morning and had to finish it that evening. But I had a great time and had to "remember" how to hunt. I've been so busy with training dogs the last couple years that I haven't had much time for hunting at all. In fact, I did not hunt ducks last year at all. Only went twice the year before that. I can remember a time where a weekend was never missed. You always hear how hard our parents worked and there was never any time for this or that. While I don't doubt that, I think we lead busier lives today than they ever thought about back then. All I heard while growing up was how hard farming was. I'm with ya, but I live across from a fourth generation full-time farmer and I have to say I wish I had his hours. I watch them break for breakfast each morning while I'm heading out to run marks. I watch them break for lunch while I pull the dog truck back in to start drill work. I watch them call it a day and sit down for dinner while I finish dogs and start the hour and a half feeding process. I watch them turn the lights out for bed while I "air" dogs and pick up pans for the night. That's one tough life, that farming.
I love this work and dogs are my passion, but it's easy to get too busy in this business. I'm planning on setting aside more time this year and get back to the things I miss doing as recreation. All I need to do is schedule some sit down time to work on a schedule. Yea... right. Back to the grind.
