| Bumper: A retrieving object that looks similar to a boat bumper used in training retrievers. Usually made from plastic and available in several different colors. Burn: A term describing continuous stimulation from the electronic collar. Not meant as something that is harmful to the dog. Just as a length of time stimulation is applied. Call Back List: Used in Hunt Tests and Field Trials as a notification of which dogs passed or will be carried over to run the next series. Cast: A signal to the dog from the handler (example: hand signal) to correct the dog's route to a blind retrieve or mark he has having trouble finding. Cast Refusal: The dog's refusal to take the route the handler has signaled. Channel: Long body of water. 2 - act of swimming along a shoreline, or down a channel on a retrieve. Cheating: act of a dog giving in to diversion factors such as cover cheating or shoreline cheating. Controlled Break: When a dog leaves for a retrieve before being sent by the handler but is brought back under control by the handler. Cover: Grass, bushes, heavy vegetation. Creeping: act of a dog moving forward as marks are thrown or birds being shot. Cue: a verbal indication to the dog such as "mark" or "dead bird" suggesting to the dog he will go into action soon. Example would be; we give the "dead bird" cue to a dog about to be sent on a blind retrieve. Double: a retrieve in which two birds are thrown or shot in two different locations and one will be retrieved from memory. Flyer: a live bird shot during a marking test or training. Flyer Station: location in which the flyer is shot from Gunner: person throwing birds during training or testing. See Bird Boy Gunner Station: location in which gunner throw birds |
